For good or for bad, for better or for worse, life is a journey. If you don’t find a way to laugh at your circumstances, it will be a pretty tough existence.
For reasons best suited for a different blog, I spent far too many years of my life denying myself of my first love: travel. And I mean travel not vacationing. Travel is when you do, see, and go — an adventure in the experience. Vacationing is when you sit and chill on a beach or go to Disneyland. Don’t misunderstand, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just not my jam unless it’s a couple days to recoup after travel.
When I took my first major trip in years (a solo traveler tour of several countries in the south of Africa) someone who had known me over 10 years said, “Wow! That’s quite a trip! Is it like you to do something like this?” She meant no harm. She simply didn’t know me as someone with a love of travel. How would she know? And that broke my heart. I had a lot of catching up to do — about 15 years worth. I set my sights on doing just that.
Writing is something I also stepped away from even longer ago. Despite affirmations to the contrary, I just didn’t think I had anything people wanted to read. Once I decided not to care — writing is an outlet for me, I started this blog. I can’t tell you how many trips and experiences I wish I had captured in this way. You can’t look back. You can only live facing forward.
A bit of a serious way to start a blog that promises to tap into the humorous side of life. I wanted to explain the formation of Roam Free — which is how my heart and soul feel now. Knowing I can make people laugh makes them sour all the more.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy the first of many adventures.
Ann
